Centering Self-Care for Black Women in Tech
There is an abundance of empirical research confirming that the experiences of women of color in tech -- including Black women -- are just...different. (The latest report on this topic from the National Academies of Science provides even more evidence.) From managing micro-aggressions, to being deemed unqualified for technical roles before being given a chance, there are lots of obstacles for women and women of color to navigate. For this year's Symposium, we want to acknowledge the differentiated journey for Black women in tech by choosing to focus on self-care as we move through our careers. As allies and tech leaders, you, too, are invited to share in ways that amplify self-care for Black women and all career professionals by ensuring that wellness is an intrinsic component of everyone's career journey.
