Dr. Jeremy Waisome is the President of Modern Figures, Inc., a non-profit organization that seeks to elevate the voices of black women and girls in STEM+C through scholarships and speaking engagements. Dr. Waisome received her B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. from the University of Florida. In 2018, she served as the Project Manager for a National Science Foundation Broadening Participation in Computing Alliance, the Institute for African-American Mentoring in Computing Sciences (iAAMCS, pronounced, “I am CS”), where she expanded the organizations national profile in the computing community and beyond. It was through this engagement, where Dr. Waisome, along with her co-host Dr. Kyla McMullen, began Modern Figures Podcast. They have gone on to record three seasons of content and receive nearly $200,000 in funding to support their vision of seeing greater equity in the advanced technology workforce.
Dr. Waisome is also an Instructional Assistant Professor of Engineering Education. Her research is at the intersection of self-efficacy and critical mentoring, and she focuses on providing evidence-based interventions for minoritized individuals in engineering and computer science degree programs.
