Cynthia Winston-Proctor

Dr. Cynthia Winston-Proctor, an accomplished narrative personality psychologist, is Professor of Psychology and P.I. of the Identity & Success Research Lab at Howard University (HU). Her interdisciplinary research and practice leverage her expertise in psychological science to design novel solutions across multiple sectors (e.g. industry, government, academia) that address: (1) leadership development; (2) narrative identity; (3) organizational transformation; (4) executive coaching; (5) healthy living; (6) broadening participation; (7) machine learning.  Her previous appointments include (1) Associate Director of the HU Center for Applied High Performance Computing; (2) Howard Hughes Medical Institute Research Professor at Brown University; (3) Director of Leadership Programs at the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation.  She was awarded a NSF Early CAREER Award and subsequently over $16,000,000. She has published widely in academic journals. And authored three books including, Behavioral Cybersecurity:Fundamental Principles & Applications of Personality Psychology and a forthcoming book Very Short Introduction to Personality.   She is President of the Society of STEM Women of Color, former Member of NASEM Committee on Women of Color in Tech, and Expert for the National Academy of Medicine’s Commission on Investment Imperatives for a Healthy Nation. She earned her B.S. from HU and Ph.D.from the University of Michigan.
